With a visitation from the Kent membership of the BLL it was time to give 'Doris' (the battery powered Railcar) a good run and she trundled away happily under the control of the apprentice driver (and the steely eye of the rail operator - that's me!).
In the meantime 'Dennis' (the diesel) was tasked with moving a host of goods trucks which it did with ease.....

'Dennis' in company! |
Unfortunately the flying 'Phoenix' did fly and with no radio control - and lots of undergrowth, became somewhat unmanageable, mainly due to my inability to leapfrog the lupins and arrest the steam regulator before she roared off around the bend!!!
Disaster did strike when a delphinium fell across the line and caused a derailment!! Who needs logs or leaves on the line around here.
As well as running trains 'we' also carried out a couple of tests on ballasting having recently acquired ten bags of ballast which now needs to be laid.
Having carried out some online research several combinations were tried including the use of cement; adhesive; sand etc - I now wait to see which test sample was the most successful.
If you have any tips on securing ballast so birds and weather do not ensure its removal then I would be very grateful?
Some more line side buildings have also turned up so work in the workshop will continue in an effort to improve the scenery at key locations of the BLL. One thing I am really having difficulty in locating is 1:19 (about 19mm high) scale Firefighters for my fire station, and a similar scale British fire truck which are all in the planning stage. Oh - and a couple of Royal Navy sailors (ello' sailor) are also required! Again any tips here gratefully received.
All in all not a bad day and here are a few more pictures .
