Eight weeks into lockdown and the weather has been tremendous. Who would have thought that we would be having almost ‘heat wave’ conditions through April and May - and not able to travel about and enjoy it!
Making the best of it I have managed to carry out a few ‘tweaks’ around the track in an effort to ‘flatten out’ some of the wrinkles which includes a couple of unplanned lumps and bumps!
'Ooops - soft landing thankfully'!!!! |
In addition ‘Barney’s End’ now has a new shelter for the occupants to keep dry whilst waiting for the passenger train that never arrives!
I have now commenced a ‘new’ project i.e construction of an “Tralee & Dingle Pickup’.
[‘This Pickup, modelled on the original that ran on the Irish Tralee & Dingle Narrow Gauge Railway established in 1889 was originally built on a Baguley chassis with Ford Model T motor. This model (purchased from IP Engineering) is of freelance design and made to 15 mm / ft and is constructed in laser cut wood parts also embellished with a wealth of metal castings and comes complete with an under floor motor unit and 2 AAA size battery holders’].
So far it has been a slow process, but there is no need to rush and hopefully, if I can get to grips with the electrical side of it, it should be up and running in the not too distant future. So watch this space!
This from one of our SDGRG members, Phillip:-
"Attached is a picture of my short rake of covered wagons. I am afraid that I compromised on the building in that you are meant to remove the bottom 'plank' so that all the metal work sits on the frames. I didn't fancy cutting between the door hinges and so painted the bottom plank to look as if they were part of the frames. The result is that frames and metalwork meet as they should and the finish to the wagon is quite pleasing.
However, it is clear from the photo that the black paint needs a final touch up."
