A bridge too far?

Saturday 1st June (already!!) and a fine day saw further progress made as we near completion of track laying.

Having made some recent adjustments, as requested by the Technical Director (!) to the 'Sheepham Straight'  I re-laid the two boards that now complete the down line. Unfortunately track laying cannot be completed because after further 'technical advice' (!!) the 'Warehouse Siding' has also been adjusted, which now coincidentally makes it slightly longer. (Don't you hate it when they are right!) This has meant a change in points so I am currently waiting for the new point set to be delivered.

Meanwhile therefore the final board on the up line was fitted (not without a few trials and tribulations) and track laid accordingly - so the up line is now complete! I say complete because there is the no small matter of a temporary bridge to be constructed - and yes that has been done also!! So much so that I nervously carried out a test run with 'Dennis the Diesel' to ascertain suitability of the aforementioned bridge - and the watching crowd tentatively held its breathe as 'Dennis' moved nervously, but confidently ahead and astern over 'Box Bridge' (named after the box tree that we excavated a 'gulley' through)!

Success!! 'Dennis' powered backwards and forwards between 'Primrose Curve' on the up line and 'Coal Yard' sidings adjacent to the veg patch.

'Gently does it'!

'Phew'! (Nice peas by the way!
That was enough tension for one day it now remains to iron out some of the 'idiosyncrasies' of that particular stretch of track, and also to install some defence mechanisms in case of possible derailments at height over the granite patio.
So back to the drawing board for the present but hopefully within the next week we should be able to drive in that final spike and allow the steamers to fully test the circuit.
Then the real fun begins! 😀
