Yes, March is upon us but as yesterday (February 29th!) was a relatively fine day (during the wettest February on record apparently) I ventured along to Buckfastleigh and joined the working party to carry out more maintenance work on the garden railway layout.
The previous weekend we removed all the damaged felt and timber and yesterday we made really good progress in laying new marine ply baseboards and covering with two layers of felt - quite a mucky job this bit ...

'The boys from the black stuff'!!!! |
Work progressed well and by 1600 we had completed 95% of the work leaving two small areas to be completed next week. The 'tent' has stood up well and protected us and the railway thus allowing us to stay dry, well almost.
Hopefully this stage should be completed next week and then it will be a case of relaying track.
HS2 - eat your heart out!!!
Sadly one of our members died recently so his garden railway stock is being sold off on behalf of his widow so I took the plunge and purchased, unseen, two 'ancient' Mamod locomotives which I collected yesterday. These are definitely a project in the making or could it be a 'bridge too far' but hopefully I can get at least one of them running - let's wait and see on that!
